I just watched that - - it looks to be sped up a little bit, but man that’s crazy! !

But after a while, I’m not sure why a few people stayed on once it got to the bottom. Jumping off there was the smart thing to do!

JFTDC, this is why lifts have roll back brakes and they are tested frequently (at least in the US). I ski a lot, like 2-3 days a week and this would be terrifying and life threatening.

I have always thought in a roll back situation you would want to jump the hell off of the chair at the first opportunity. You do not want to get fucked up at the wheel house, that would mean broken bones at the least. There are low spots along most lift routes where you are only 10-15 feet in the air, you could jump at that point and probably come out relatively unscathed.

This chair is also a detachable high speed lift and it was fascinating to see the chair detach and go slower around the wheel house. A fixed grip lift in a similar situation would not be nearly as friendly.

Definitely a case where you would jump off, as many people did, at a low point near the beginning (if there was no other low point along the lift). I’m always aware of the lowest points, and highest points, on a chairlift. And may have jumped off perfectly functioning chairs from time to time, in my youth.
